Rada Ruggles
Rada Ruggles (They/He) is a trans, queer, Kazakh adoptee, student, activist, musician, historian, philosopher, and artist. They believe that everyone is made in the image of God, and are all beloved by God. There is nothing that can separate you from that love.
His theology is rooted in a blend of Christian and Unitarian Universalist spiritual traditions, the teachings of their family and mentors, their identity as a transgender-Kazakh adoptee and informed by his work in the LGBT community, historical research, the Black Lives Matter movement, Food and Housing Justice, Transgender Celebration, Palestinian Liberation, and the social justice music community. Rada graduated from Saint Michael’s College with a B. A in Religious Studies and American Studies with minors in History, and Philosophy & Ethics. They are attending Boston University School of Theology, completing a Master of Divinity.
Rada has also served in various volunteer positions with Emma’s Revolution, the Allston Brighton Food Pantry, Mobilization of Volunteer Efforts, and Service trips to New Orleans and Hartford. They have served in various liturgical roles as a preacher, deacon, retreat leader, lector, Eucharistic minister, and acolyte. Professional roles include experience as a historical educator, career student advisor, mailroom clerk, camp counselor, tech member, and librarian.
They grew up in Somerville attending both UU and Christian church communities, creating magic in theater and art classes, and traveling with his family. When not working or studying, Rada can be found at protests, knitting, hiking, biking, or playing with their dog Hector.
